Job Purpose Technical Product Managers (TPM) are the bridge between the Portfolio and Team level, working upwards with Portfolio Product Management to understand, assess, and decompose prioritised Epics into key Features, with a focus upon MVP (Minimum Viable Product), Program Increment (PI) and Agile Release Train (ART) definition. They should hold a medium to longer term (2 to 6 months), view of the Product Roadmap, ensuring close alignment to external sources (where applicable), like vendor partnerships, and emerging technologies within the sector, industry, and market. They should ensure medium term planning closely aligns with Business goals and objectives, driven from a focus upon maximising value for both users and customers. Furthermore, then working with their Technical Product Owners (TPO) to feed these features and indicative prioritisation to engineering team backlogs. Job Outline: Collaborating with TPO’s, peer group TPM’s, and other IT stakeholder groups, they contribute towards finalising future PI’s, utilising business value, together with assessment of available capacity and indicative level of effort arising from the team landscape resulting in effectively sequenced and prioritised backlogs Collaborate with architecture, engineering, and service management teams, to ensure the overall backlogs are balanced to ensure a scalable, user experience optimised, stable, and performant technology product, that continually meets business needs, ensuring NFR’s (Non Functional Requirements) and System enablers are considered and captured, and cascaded to team backlogs Varied levels of involvement across suite of Demos and Visual Release Notes including the participation in Sprint demos, at team level and assisting in the preparation of system demo’s, again at team level, per iteration and engaging in preparation and delivery of PI demo’s to stakeholder group, via `Inspect & Adapt’ workshops Define methodology for the analysis and response to target metrics and value post PI delivery, including recommended improvements, for use during `Inspect & Adapt? workshops, and with an overall goal of driving increased use and adoption Build peer group TPM community, identifying and acting upon opportunities for L&D, growth and advancement, whilst support TPO’s in the establishment of their community and identity, offering support and suggestions for their growth journey Contribute to the Portfolio Product Management Playbook, and its continuous evolution, to help drive efficient practices and empowered teams Collaborate with architecture, engineering, and service management teams, to ensure the overall backlogs are balanced to ensure a robust, scalable, user experience optimised, stable and performant technology product; that continually meets business needs. Maintain the quality and integrity of features within their technical and team boundaries, ensuring identification and contribution of risks and dependencies, ensuring appropriate team backlogs reflect any impact Working with TPO’s to identify and capture team driven innovation ideas, consolidating across their peer group for playback up to stakeholders Working in partnership with applicable product `vendors’, ensuring timely feature/product upgrades, maximising the efficiency and effectiveness of the product. Minimise bespoke customisation, and influence business process changes to best utilise vendor supplied products. Qualifications & Experience Experience: Information Technology: 8+ Years’ experience Qualifications: Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent), can be optional if strong experience in the following. Degree In a relevant domain e.g. Operations Research, Marketing, Science, Information Systems, e-Commerce. 3 to 5 years practical experience of working as a Technical Product Manager or Senior Business Analyst, with proven record of driving discernible ideation, change and delivery, at pace Whilst not essential, some experience of working within a Scaled Agile framework, across multiple initiatives and circa 50+ teams Knowledge/skills: Well-versed with the tools for the Technical Product Management aspects of software delivery Strong communicator at peer, line, and stakeholder levels Leads by example, and demonstrates appetite and ability to grow to a senior leadership position Role requires the following skills and experience: Information Technology – Product Managers with knowledge and experience in managing Products for IT Enterprise Business capabilities / Technology Business Management Leadership Role : Yes |
