The Opportunity     
                                                                                 
We have an exciting opportunity to join our EY Law practice based in DubaiUnited Arab Emirates as a Transactional Banking Lawyer at the Manager or Senior Manager levels.
 
You can expect to be involved in a multitude of complex banking and finance transactions and debt restructurings, both conventional and Islamic finance, across multiple jurisdictions within MENA, helping our financial institution clients, as well as corporate borrowers in various sectors including real estate, shipping and energy.
 
You will also have the opportunity to develop your career through a broad scope of engagements, mentoring and supervision by a Banking and Islamic finance Partner recognized as a leading individual in legal directories, and formal learning to support your growth as a banking lawyer and extend that same development to others within your team.
 
Your Key Responsibilities
You will spend your time managing cutting-edge, technically complex and demanding banking and finance transactions. This will require you to be well-versed with the Loan Market Association (LMA) standard documents and be able to negotiate and adapt these to conventional and Islamic financings in the Middle East. Prior Islamic finance experience is desirable but not mandatory. Prior experience of Middle East security documents and registration procedures is desirable but not mandatory. You will also be involved on building and maintaining new and existing client relationships.
 
Finally, in a more senior capacity, you will also help people to develop through effectively supervising, coaching, and mentoring of junior members of your team.

We are looking for lawyers who will create a distinctive and differentiated law brand with us. This role is best suited for law professionals who have worked in established law firms, and who wish to develop their career with this greenfield opportunity in MENA by being part of a growing team looking to create a new and successful banking and finance legal practice.
 
To qualify for the role you must have:
Between 4 to 10 years of post-qualification experience as a qualified lawyer in a law firm reputable in transactional banking. Experience in a financial institution in-house legal team is also valued, preferably from the MENA region or from a global financial centre e.g. London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong etc.
Strong technical knowledge of the Loan Market Association (LMA) standard documents.
Good working knowledge of the banking industry, its business trends, industry jargon, and how its entities function and operate across financial products such as syndicated loans, bilateral loans, Islamic financing, acquisition financing, project financing etc.
Experienced in leading on day-to-day transaction management (e.g. liaising with clients, drafting/review/amendment of finance documents, negotiation with borrowers/lenders, preparing legal opinions, collating loan conditions precedent etc.)
Strong client relationship-building capabilities combined with strategic and commercial awareness.
Ability to navigate, or get up to speed with, local security products (e.g. mortgages, guarantees, pledges, assignments, promissory notes etc.) and related registration procedures.
Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, self-management, negotiation, and transaction management skills.
The ability to create, sustain, and lead effective work teams.
