This challenging role requires a subject matter expert in wholesale credit risk, acting as an individual contributor with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. It requires the ability to deliver multiple Group-led or Regional regulatory deliverables concurrently and at pace including ad-hoc deliverables whilst working closely with the existing MENAT PPM Senior Manager (who leads on the day to day work of this sub-team).
This role must be able to communicate and interpret messages from Global to Country level in a collaborative and consultative manner to achieve optimum results. Due to the rapidly changing risk and regulatory landscape, it requires a proactive risk management approach – taking into account continuously evolving internal and external data. The role holder will interact with very senior management at country, regional and global level while pivoting to lead team members at various experience levels to deliver reporting and initiatives
This role will coordinate and ensure the comprehensive and accuracy of reporting for the MENAT Wholesale and GB Portfolio, across 8 countries and engage with senior management.
Contribute to the Regional Portfolio and Oversight Council (RPOC) content; operate a risk-based approach in ensuring Sector Reviews are undertaken on a periodic basis and monitoring portfolio / sector caps at Wholesale level;
Suggest improvements in portfolio risk management, which will enable the regional WCMR team to identify emerging trends in the wholesale market and adjust the risk appetite accordingly.
As part of the portfolio management responsibilities, this role requires active risk management capability where the role holder is expected to provide the subject matter expertise into commentaries by bringing the value add to the reports / outputs in supporting Approvers, LOBs, Hd of WMR and CROs in their risk management responsibilities.
As climate risk becomes more and more important for the bank, there will be a need to provide support on the topic related to portfolio management.
Deliver commitments to Regulators on data and reporting requirements;
Ensure accurate monthly / quarterly reporting for various governance forums (e.g. Board, Regional and Country RMMs) in addition to Regulatory returns and ad-hoc papers as required for Board, DFSA etc.
The role also has to work closely with the MENAT PPM Senior Manager to ensure that all Wholesale Credit Risk Policy is monitored and dispensations are sought where necessary.
At times, role holder will be requested to act as the delegate to MENAT PPM Senior Manager to ensure that all Wholesale Credit Risk Policy documentation, and Area Lending Guidelines, along with other relevant Wholesale policy and procedures are kept up to date and in line with the most recent Group Risk standards and FIM, as well as with alignment to Global best practice. This includes educating the LOBs and Risk when a new regulation goes live and requires adoption.
Implement a consistent and effective approach to portfolio management across Wholesale businesses.
Support the LOBs, Approvers, CROs and Heads of WMR through provision of data and intelligence on the data to drive effective risk management.
Risk Policies – Support the MENAT PPM Senior Manager in ensuring that policies are up to date and in line with regulations and Group guidance.
Regulatory – Support local initiatives (with PRA/DFSA) in regulatory engagement exercises mandated by regulators, directly or through the Group/Region.
Governance – Provide inputs to projects aimed at aligning methodologies, governance and policies around the Group. To ensure adherence to Group’s standards in all relevant activities
Ensure all portfolio risk MI, analysis and committee papers are submitted to senior management in a timely manner.
Build strong relationships across country, regional and Global WMR teams, adopting a joined up approach, to support execution of responsibilities
Engage with WMR Risk leadership to understand key local challenges in translating group strategy, develop understanding of impact to realization of targets.

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
Strong knowledge of the Wholesale portfolio and the HSBC data systems to extract, collect and present valuable information
Good knowledge of risk metrics both internal and external – able to interpret them for the use of risk management
Strong conceptual skills (business models, organizational design) and analytical skills (business performance, market & competitive dynamics).
Strong Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for investments and alternatives in the language of business

Relevant experience of circa 10 years +
Degree Level or MBA Or Equivelvent Expiereince beneficial
Preferably a MA or Advanced Degree Or Equivalent, Preferably in finance, Economics or Equivalent.
